Seed Starting + Baby Plants

Trays, domes, heat mats, and honest seed sources.

Seed starting is the cheapest way to grow a lot, and the easiest place to waste money on things you don't need.

You need trays, a way to keep the soil warm, light close overhead, and seeds from a source that labels things honestly. That's it.

Where I buy seeds

When I'm buying seeds, SeedsNow is where I keep going back. Good variety, honest labeling, sometimes seedlings, and the prices don't make me think twice about trying something new.

Start here: Lettuce varieties — lettuce is my favorite thing to grow. You can harvest the outer leaves and let the center keep going, so one planting feeds you for weeks.

Also worth browsing: the full seed collection once you know what you actually want to grow.

I'm noting which sources have been reliable for me as each round finishes.

Anything I linked here also lives in The Market, if you'd rather browse it all in one place.
