A Few Extras I Added to My Gardyn—and Why
The nursery, the pod covers, and the plant supports I added to my Gardyn, and what each one actually does.
My Gardyn has been growing beautifully, so naturally, I ordered a few extras to make it work even better for me.
The Nursery
The first thing I added was the Gardyn Nursery, which gives you 10 spaces to start growing new plants before moving them into the main system. Of course, you already know me—I may not leave everything in the Gardyn. I have a few salad varieties I've been dying to grow, so some of these seedlings may eventually find their way into another container or garden space.
Covers for the Unused Openings
I also picked up covers for the unused openings. When you have empty spaces in the Gardyn, covering them helps keep light and debris out of the system, reduce algae growth, and limit some of the evaporation. It also gives the system a cleaner, more finished look while you wait for the next plant to move in.
Plant Supports
Then I ordered the plant supports. As peppers and other heavier plants grow, their stems can sometimes need a little help staying upright. These supports wrap around the plant and give the stalk added stability without taking up much space.
Now, let's be honest—the fact that they were blue absolutely helped sell me. You know I love my blue. But I also like the long, narrow shape and how sturdy everything feels. Some seed-starting products I've used in the past became flimsy, discolored, or just looked rough after sitting around water and minerals. These feel much more structured and better suited for the space.
What's Still Missing
The only thing missing right now is growing media. I don't have any rockwool or similar starter material on hand, and although I could experiment with regular soil, I'm not doing that inside this setup. Once I pick some up, I'll start a few lettuce varieties and see where they end up.
