Read the Label, Not Just the Front of the Box
The front of the package gets your attention. The nutrition label gives you the full story.
One of my newest finds is Raisin Bran Protein. It tastes similar to regular Raisin Bran, but to me it is not as sweet, which I actually prefer.
Here is the part worth slowing down for: always check the full nutrition label. The larger protein number shown on the front of a cereal box may include the milk used in the prepared serving rather than the cereal alone.
So when I pick up a box now, I look at:
- the serving size, and whether it matches how much I actually pour
- the protein in the cereal by itself
- whether the advertised total counts milk
- the sugar and calories
- the ingredient list
The front of the package gets your attention. The nutrition label gives you the full story.
More of how I work protein into a regular day: Protein Does Not Have to Look Like a Full Meal.
Have you ever bought something for the number on the front and felt differently after reading the label?
If this was helpful, give it a like and share it with someone who needs it — and come back for the next installment of Protein in Real Life.
Medical note: This guide shares my personal experience and is not individualized medical or nutritional advice. Protein needs vary. Talk with your healthcare professional or registered dietitian about the amount and sources appropriate for you.
